Frequently Asked Questions
About Us
True North Sanitation is a family-owned and operated residential waste hauling company serving Wright County, Minnesota. We're fully licensed and insured, and we live and work in the communities we serve. We started this business because we believed local families deserved a simpler, more honest alternative to the large national haulers.
We currently serve unincorporated Wright County and the city of Albertville. We are actively expanding and will announce new service areas as they are added.
No. We don't believe in locking customers in. You can cancel anytime.
Service & Pickup
Weekly, on your assigned route day.
We provide a 95-gallon cart for trash, and a second cart for recycling where applicable. That size works well for most households of four or fewer. If you need more capacity, just reach out and we'll walk through your options.
We start our routes early, so we recommend putting your cart out the night before to make sure you don't miss us. If you ever have a problem with your pickup, just give us a call or a text — we'll get it sorted out.
Recycling
It depends. In unincorporated Wright County and some cities we serve, we handle both trash and recycling. In other municipalities, recycling is centrally managed by the city. If you're not sure which applies to your address, just request a quote and we'll confirm your service details before your first pickup.
Accepted
  • Paper and cardboard (flattened boxes, newspaper, magazines, mail)
  • Glass bottles and jars (rinsed)
  • Metal cans — aluminum and steel (rinsed)
  • Plastic bottles and jugs marked #1 and #2 (rinsed)
Not Accepted
  • Plastic bags or wrap (return to grocery store drop-off locations)
  • Styrofoam
  • Food-soiled containers
  • Electronics or batteries
  • Clothing or textiles
Tips for Successful Recycling
  • Rinse containers — food residue contaminates entire loads
  • Flatten cardboard boxes before placing in the cart
  • When in doubt, throw it out — contaminated recycling can cause whole loads to be diverted to landfills
  • Never bag your recyclables — loose is correct
  • Break down boxes fully; oversized pieces can jam sorting equipment
What's Dangerous to Put in the Trash
Some household items should never go in your regular trash. Improper disposal can contaminate groundwater, harm sanitation workers, or create fire hazards.
  • Batteries (especially lithium-ion) — lithium batteries are a leading cause of fires in waste collection vehicles and facilities. Bring to a retailer drop-off such as Best Buy or Home Depot, or a household hazardous waste event.
  • Paint — liquid paint is hazardous. Latex paint can be trashed once fully dried and solid. Oil-based paint must go to a hazardous waste facility.
  • Motor oil and automotive fluids — bring to an auto parts store for recycling.
  • Propane tanks — even "empty" tanks contain residual gas. Bring to a propane retailer or hazardous waste event.
  • Medications — flushing or trashing medications contaminates the water supply. Use a pharmacy take-back program or designated drop box.
  • Pesticides and chemicals — bring to a household hazardous waste collection event.
  • Electronics — computers, TVs, and phones contain heavy metals. Minnesota law prohibits disposal in regular trash. Retailers and county collection sites accept e-waste.
  • Medical sharps (needles) — place in a puncture-resistant container and bring to a pharmacy or designated drop-off. Never place loose in trash or recycling.
Billing & Account
